1940s – Tango Roots
Dare I call him my very first influence! Grandpa founded one of Uruguay’s first tango orchestras: 'La Orquesta Tipica de Don Horacio'. He represented us around the globe and was a major musical influence alongside my dad growing up. My favorite song is 'La Cancion de Amor'!
Childhood: Curiosity & Performance
Dad is a songwriter, composer, and performer. To his dismay, I would cry my eyes out as a baby when he played the sax, but would stare at him in awe when he sang and played guitar. Having lived in the US during the 70s and 80s, his taste was broad and rich, with The Carpenters, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Marvin Gaye being some of our favorites. As years went by, I pursued piano & solfège.
14 - Introduction to the Stage
I guess because I was an underdog at school, I held private showcases for friends and family of monologues and scenes from my favorite shows. Once I set foot onstage, I became filled with drama and life. It felt so, so right.
19 – Private Pilot
I always knew I wanted to leave home, and I also knew what it meant to set roots abroad (part of my family is from Galicia, Spain). Flying for myself was liberating. My situation at home was not ideal, but I had two jobs to support my career (and a lot of emotional support from peers and fellow flying club members!). Also, my Air Force instructors gave me a strong spine.
21 – Dubai as a global hub of humanity
3 continents a week, 10 nationalities per flight meant empathy and resilience were something to exercise daily. I loved it. I was very young, and it was an experience that shaped my understanding of how the world (actually) works. After traveling to 60 countries and over 95 destinations, I knew which lessons were finally learnt.
24 - Return to Acting
I never imagined what having a child could be like until I played Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet. I feared never being able to feel it in my body, because I honestly never wanted children. Thankfully, my worries vanished. This was my first ever show in the US, landing in Texas to do my first ever English-speaking role. The stage would be my second home if I had it my way.
25 - Commercial Work & Entrepreneurship
While I did commercials and worked as an extra to pay bills and have on-set experience, I wanted to know what it was like to work BTS. So, I co-founded a female-led & diversity-driven marketing agency (as one does) and started producing. With a focus on the fashion, entertainment, and culinary industries, this experience put me in rooms where I learned how to build relationships in the industry.
27 - California Dreamin' as Rebirth
Ok for formatting reasons this will be short: I moved to California. One of the best decisions I've ever made. I decided to pursue a degree in Psychology to add layers to fictional characters.
28 - Femme Fatale for an audience
Marie as the role that embodied the female diaspora of power, survival, and seduction. This marked my feature debut in a supporting role, contingent on past-present-and future versions of women I have always admired. I -love- her. Did a lot of shadow work for this one.
29 - The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I've set roots in NYC - the city my father lived and performed in for 20 years before I was born. 'Chaos with Order', as my mom would say. Here is where I continue to find the people and projects I wanted to be a part of. I love collaborating on projects that bring me joy.
(Also 29) - Advocacy: Project Blackbird
Mental health and eating disorders have their own chapter in my life. Uniting with Project Blackbird to amplify voices in underrepresented communities and provide tools I once needed has been one of the most fulfilling moments in my career!
30 - Producing as a way to take control
Using my skillset to further amplify stories that must be told, championing the female gaze above all, and diversifying the spectrum of people whose voices need to be heard. Performing is my #1, and producing to me means helping others do great work. In the end, we all have stories to tell.
